DIR in Viet Nam

Last update: June 2006

Two years of planning and discussions with national and provincial governments have resulted in plans being made for a rural health project in Bin Phouc Province [map].  The greatest deciding factor in locating the project was the health needs of the local communities.

This pilot project in Viet Nam is planned to last 30 months and will be followed by a detailed evaluation upon which future activity will be based.  The model to be followed is identical to that of the project in India, in which local residents are empowered to solve their own worst health problems.  (For a description of this model, please see Indian Operations.)

The total budget for the Pilot Project in Viet Nam is $1,600,000 and funds are currently being sought.

The estimated cost-beneficiary ratio (that is to say, the average cost of providing assistance to one beneficiary for one year) is US$6.50.
