Marilyn Joy Smith MA
Presently: Chief Editor, International Energy Agency (Paris) and independent science communications specialist. Is a member of the National Union of Journalists, UK, and a former member of the Board of Canadian Science Writers' Association. Has contributed to a wide variety of scientific publications. She has been a Member of DIR's Board since 2010.
Her photo exhibitions, which have been presented both in France and Canada, (most recently in Paris, Vancouver and Alberta) have included Weaving a life in Laos, There and Here — Chechen, Refugees at Home, and Hope in a Slum. Her photographs have appeared in national Canadian magazines and newspapers, including The Gazette, Avenue, Wine Access). She has produced radio documentaries for CBC and video presentations for the International Energy Agency.
Formerly: She was the Science Communications Officer for DIVERSITAS, as well as for the International Council for Science (both in France where she has lived and worked since 2002). She has freelanced for the Organisation for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD), International Energy Agency (IEA), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), European Multiple Sclerosis Platform (EMSP). Before coming to Paris, she worked for the National Research Council of Canada.
